When I Grow Up

This week we wrap up our SES unit on occupations.  An invitation was given to parents who would like to come speak with our class about the work that they do.  I was honoured by so many who responded and who took the time to visit us and share with us their passions, their expertise, and skills.  We had a…

Reading Buddies

One of the highlights of my week is midday on Friday – Reading Buddies.  There is a sense of anticipation in the class leading up to this period, and a sense of joy and excitement when “the big kids” come to our class.  Once the buddies get together, it is replaced with a deep sense of peace.  As my colleague…

Community

There are many reasons why I love what I do.  Today what comes to mind is the beauty of the community within this school. One of the parents in this class has a great deal of expertise in OT skills.  She beautifully and lovingly made several stations for us to use within the classroom.  Last week we were all able…

Amazing Oceans

This month our SES unit was on Oceans.  We thoroughly enjoyed learning about God’s creativity as He made so many different ocean creatures. To wrap up our unit, each child ‘researched’ their favourite ocean creature, made an artefact, and presented to the class. What a wonderful time of learning together.

The Heavens Declare

We have recently finished our solar system unit.  The Kindergarten class loved it, and we all learned so much. Did you know that Jupiter has 79 moons? Did you know that it takes 248 years for Pluto to orbit the sun? Did you know that Venus is the hottest planet? Thank you, God, for our beautiful world and beyond!

So Happy Together

After a too-long hiatus, this past Friday the kindergarten class and the grade 6 class joined ‘forces’ and began our reading buddy program. It is not an exaggeration to say that it was a beautiful time. There was a peace and a happiness throughout the classroom as the younger and older enjoyed being together. We hope to continue this very…

Farm Fresh

“It stinks here!” were the first words that were said when we got off the bus and arrived at our field trip destination.  As expected, within five minutes there was no longer any smell.  The excitement blew it away. We have been learning about farms, and the class has so been looking forward to our farm field trip.  Farmer Maclean…

Safety First

This past month we did a unit on Be Healthy, Be Safe.  In the absence of a field trip, we asked the field trip to come to us.  What a great opportunity to have Fire Fighter Del come to visit us and teach us how to prevent fire.  I loved hearing the kids say “I already know that!”  I guess…

So Much to Count

…. So little time…. We have been enjoying learning about graphs this month in numeracy: bar graphs, pie graphs, and tally graphs.  Our teacher candidate has been doing a phenomenal job of encouraging hands-on learning. For my part, I have been honoured to be able to watch these little minds learn so much with such enthusiasm.  What a privilege to…

Thankful Thursday

As students have become more comfortable in the class and with each other, it has been a beautiful thing to be able to begin our day together asking for prayer requests. This may be a foreign term to some and so I have defined it for the students as “something we would like to ask God for, or something we…
