Genesis in Action

Recently our class had the pleasure of visiting Ripplebrook Farm near Napanee, owned and operated by Kevin MacLean.  Mr. MacLean was prepared and excited to share his farming experience with us. Students learned about all the responsibilities a farmer has in taking care of his animals. Mr. MacLean has 130 dalry cows and calls each one by name. He and his workers begin their days early and are on call through the night in case one of the herd is in need.

In the following days proceeding our visit, the class talked about Genesis 1 & 2. We studied how God named the creatures of the earth and also gave Adam the responsibility of naming some too. Mankind was also given the responsibility of caring for God’s animals. The students drew connections from their visit in reflecting on how Mr. MacLean called his cows by name and how well he cared for them.  We witnessed God’s instruction in Genesis 1:26-27, lived out on Mr. MacLean’s farm,  “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps onthe earth”. May God bless your faithful stewardship, Mr. MacLean.
