It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web…

Vestibulum auctor massa arcu

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged….

Reading Day

Reading Day is a much-anticipated tradition in the Grade 3/4 classroom. The students come to school prepared to snuggle in for an entire day of reading (minus recess, of course!) They wear their pajamas, and bring in sleeping bags, comfy blankets, and pillows to lounge on. They also bring their stuffed animal friends, snacks, and lots of books!    …

Fulfillment

We have been enjoying learning about the life and times of Moses in Bible class.  This week we talked about the ten plagues and about the Passover. Yesterday we were able to participate in a very basic version of the Passover meal.  It was a very sensory experience for us all to see how the food on the plate represents…

Resurrection Project

The 2018-19 Grade 7/8 multimedia painting entitled “Resurrection” has spent the last 4 months at the historic St. Marks Anglican Church in Barriefield. Thank you to Fr. Haynes Hubbard, his wife Susan, and his son Caspian (one of the artists) for their support during this project, and for giving the artwork its first home! The painting has found a new venue…

Sculpty Dragons

This week, the Grade 3/4 Class crafted tiny dragons using Sculpty modeling clay. This project was a lesson in creativity, and also patience, listening, and extreme fine-motor skills! Thank you to former KCS student and Sculpty expert Katie Dove for planning and leading us through this project.

We Remember

Today, after much preparation, conversation, and thought processing, our class was honoured to lead the Remembrance Day assembly.  I was very pleased with the respect our class, and the entire student body, showed as we remembered veterans and those affected by war. To close our assembly, each student placed a poppy on a cross. In Flanders fields the poppies blow…

Conservation Area Field Trip

Last week, the Grade 3/4 class went on a field trip to the Little Cataraqui Conservation Area. Due to high winds, we were not able to go into the woods and therefore our Mapping program was curtailed. But it’s pretty amazing how things worked out. We ended up studying trees (the science unit we had just wrapped up), and habitats…

Mixing Matter – The Chocolate Chip Cookie Experiment

As we come to the conclusion of our States of Matter Unit, students apply their knowledge and make hypotheses regarding the mixing of solids, liquids, gases, and the application of heat in baking chocolate chip cookies. Students quickly observed reversible and irreversible changes that took place: The flour and sugar went through an irreversible change of state and could not …
